Away meets2010-2011 season

This season we would like to encourage all swimmers to get more involved in racing . We have outlined what meets are important in our calendar. They are color-coded and at the bottom of the page is the key for the colors. We would like to treat this season as more about what does Swimzone Racing have to do to get our club to the top of Wellington Swimming. Apart from the usual commitment to training I believe we need to attend better swim meets all year round. Meets that allow us grow as a competitor and to be able to have the opportunity to compete against the best competition. NZ have the population of Sydney and Sydney has a very successful competition calendar. They have swimmers at every level right up to Olympic swimmers competing and they also have overseas national swimmers turning up regularly to race in their competitions. This makes the competitive standard very high and all the future swimmers in the Sydney area get to see this or go along and watch these swimmers in action. What do our swimmers get? One quick way to get swimmers to go faster is to give them better competition, Swimmers can only be where they want to be and often their commitment is based on there own environment or training and racing with their own squad. Obviously swimmers in Bluff do not get to train and race the swimmers in Wellington and Wellington swimmers do not often get to race swimmers from Auckland where the level is much higher. Like wise Auckland swimmers do not get to train and race the better swimmers in Sydney as a regular occurrence . Why because they all want to win .The swim meets are extremely competitive and exciting, the races are often short races and the athletes buy into it at and early age. I have looked at this season and what is on offer. There are the local club meets but there is not enough age on age racing so it could be good to attend some away meets this year. I have included some user pay swim meets this season. They are user pays in meaning that it is your cost totally. The club cannot organize everything and subsidize the cost of every thing and the opportunity of gaining experience is invaluable. We are encouraging swimmers for all ages to attend the away meets. Maybe you have family in the away meet cities ? For all the away meets mentioned in the calendar a coach will be present . The calendar is for meets that are relative to Swimzone swimmers .
Here is some reasons why away meets attending would be good.

An opportunity to set goals and train towards these goals as a more regular way of having something to train for.
Race out of you environment or comfort zone
Experience swimming against the better swimmers from different regions .
Teaches the swimmers to be independent and focus more on what is important for themselves
Win prizes
Promote our club
Great practise and conditioning for end of the season National meets or Wellington champs.
