Term Two, 2010

Dear Swimmers and Parents,

Here we are at the end of our longest Term of the year and we are able to look back on some tremendous improvements and results with our Team members having won many medals at the recent National Championship meets. We have posted all the results from the National meets on our website.

As is the case every year at this time we have to take a short break for the Annual Pool Maintenance Programme and then we are back into consolidating our technique and skills whilst building up our fitness for the coming season. The pool will be closed from April 18th through to May 8th with our Term Two commencing on Monday May the 10th.

The coaching staff are very excited about the next season as we have developed so many talented swimmers across all the squads. We have been planning ahead furiously for each level and we are looking forward to continuing to develop the incredible young swimmers we have in each group. As usual we are hopeful that many more swimmers will join the Swimzone Racing Club and become involved in swim racing as a sport. We also hold a Timezone Race night approx once a month and would encourage all swimmers to have a go at a few races. They usually occur on Friday afternoon and the info is always posted on the Noticeboard at the both ends of the pool prior to each Timezone. This is a great way for all swimmers (club and non-club members) to try a few races and to see how exciting and fun it is. Timezone dates will shortly be on our website as well so please keep an eye out for the dates.

As a small business operating for 20 years we take pride in always endeavoring to be fair and flexible with our customers whilst trying to provide a valuable service to the community however in recent times we have had some significant difficulties with Term Fee payments being made on time and in several cases not being made at all. This has placed a huge strain on our business and places our ability to operate effectively in jeopardy if we are unable to pay our dedicated staff and meet our other commitments on time, every time. We have taken onboard the advice from several independent sources and the overwhelming response has been for us to encourage all customers to pay swim fees via a weekly Automatic Payment system whereby each Squads Term cost is averaged over a 52-week year which enables all parties to plan and budget effectively. We have included an AP Form with this newsletter and simply needs to be completed and handed into your Bank at the start of the Term, alternatively you will be able to download this form from our website or from you own Bank. Many people already pay via installments set up “online” from their Banks internet website. For the commencement of Term Two we would encourage all swim fees to be either paid prior to the start of the Term or Weekly Automatic Payments to have been set up and commenced. Our intention from Term Three onwards is to have ALL customers paying via weekly AP or to have paid the full Term Fees prior to the start of each term. If you have any queries, concerns or just need some help please ring Yvonne on 04 5653936.

We have made some changes to the time-table for Term Two so please check out the new schedule and if you have any problems please talk to your coach about this. Hammerheads have two changes and on Monday and Friday nights we will be using this time to specifically target speed development. Flipper-ball is back for about 10 weeks on a Wednesday afternoon so we lose that time for Term Two but we will jump straight back into our regular time slots when flipper-ball finishes.

Also on the website now is an update on the squad structures or basically a brief run down of guidelines for each squad and what is expected of all swimmers so please have a look, hopefully this can clarify the intent of each Group. If you have any questions about your child, their progress or the group they in please see your child’s coach or contact John Ross.

Regards, John Ross.
